Worship service
Holy Eucharist - Sunday Morning, 10:00 am
Parish life at Saint Michael and All Angels revolves around the main worship service, which begins at 10:00 a.m. every Sunday morning. All services use Rite I, from Advent to Easter. Rite II is used for the remainder of the year.
The Sunday service contains a blend of contemporary and traditional sacred music, and often includes spirituals and gospel. The music is selected to reinforce the scriptures of the day. The Adult Choir leads the congregation in singing hymns and choral parts of the liturgy. In addition to the traditional Episcopal Church hymnal, like many other congregations with predominantly African-American members, St. Michael & All Angels uses the Lift Every Voice and Sing hymnal.
The Sunday service begins with an organ prelude and a processional hymn, followed by a spoken acclamation or prayer by the priest standing in the back of the church. The service is interwoven with hymns and songs (both traditional and contemporary) and includes an offertory selection. Generally, two or three softer, more introspective hymns are sung during Holy Communion. The service ends with an upbeat recessional hymn (usually traditional), with a short postlude at the end.
Our Wednesday service is 6:00 p.m. and Bible Inspiration is at 6:45p.m. The service will be Evening Prayer each Wednesday, except the second Wednesday, which will be the Holy Eucharist.
